Event Details:

The LOT outdoor music festival is a treasured St. Louis tradition that started 11 years ago with one person’s dream of hanging out in a St. Louis parking lot, listening to live local bands and drinking beer. In the past 11 years the LOT has developed into something much more than that original dream. This free outdoor music festival has always been about bringing people together; this year the LOT is about engaging people of all backgrounds with fun outdoor activities, musician garage sale, and artist exhibitions. Attendees will also receive a coupon book from local businesses that feature discounts and deals in the St. Louis area. This event is free to attend and you get awesome local deals!

The festivities start at 2pm for a musician’s garage sale and go until 12:30am with live local bands on August 29th, 2009 at downtown’s only Schlafly Tap Room. This event attracts over 2000 visitors and is a guaranteed good time.

One of my favorite events of the year is this weekend.  And it’s all for a good cause.  The Seventh Annual Food and Wine Experience takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Chase Park Plaza.  It benefits the St. Louis Rep Theatre of St. Louis, and quite honestly..it’s a blast.  Unlimited amounts of wine and food from all over the country are available over two days.  They have several ‘classes’, and even VIP events, but quite honestly it’s just fun to walk around and take in the whole experience.  See you there!

If you have made the mistake t looking at your 401k or IRA statements lately, you know well the effects of this economic “perfect storm.” Though times are tough for all of us, they are hitting the art world especially hard as pointed out in the PD.

Though most of us can’t afford to write a big check to save the day, we can do something. Go to a play, see an exhibit, buy a membership, make a $20 donation to your favorite institution. Every little bit helps and if we all do a little that equals a lot. So support your local arts scene. It is what makes life worth living! Check out www.connectwithstl.com for a list of participating organizations and information on ways to get involved.

Sorry. Two posts in a row about the same subject, but it is important! This Wednesday starts Connect With… 2008 with our 3rd annul Kick-Off event at Skybox. The purpose of Connect With… is to expose young professionals in the region to all the great organizations that are making a difference in our community. These organizations range from civic to social, arts to sciences, and everywhere in between. They are creating a vibrant scene with art, music, theater, debate, great parties, new friends (that you probably didn’t go to high school with), and volunteer opportunities.
This Wednesday, over 40 organizations will have tables and representatives will be on hand to answer your questions and talk about how they make an impact. You will also learn about events happening throughout the month, giving you a chance to sample organizations and find the one that fits your passion.

St. Louis is a great place to live, work and play, as people who are active and engaged can attest.  So come out and give it a try and get involved. It is much better than sitting on your ass at the same old bar; listening to that same old cover band thinking “St. Louis sucks.” Come on. I dare ya.

Event Details:

Connect With… Kick-Off Event
Wednesday, October 1, 5:30pm – 8:00pm
Skybox – 800 N. 3rd Street

Scifest is coming up October 9th through 13th at the St. Louis Science Center! For those that don’t know, St. Louis won out against cities like New York and Chicago to host the first International version of the Cheltenham Science Festival. The purpose of SciFest is to show how science is relevant to our daily lives in a fun, entertaining way. I have been part of the planning process and can say that this will be one heck of a good time!

From their website:

From the science of chocolate and the physics of rock & roll, to climate change and the future of cancer research, SciFest 08 is a festival where everyone can engage in science.

Here are available positions and start times!

- Teardown 1:30a.m.
Would you rather be more physical, rather than deal with people?  We don’t blame you.  This job’s for you!
