All I can say is… What a great space! If you missed RCP Tuesday and have not had the chance to check out a show or attend an event at Lucas School House, do your self a favor and get over there! Rumor has it that St. Louis Magazine will be hosting one haute Halloween Party on 10/31, so pick out a fabulous costume and go get schooled (did I just say that?). In the meantime, if you are dying to see what you missed, the pics are up on the RCP site.

Also, don’t forget to support our September partner, Team in Training and Hike for Discovery as part of the Gateway Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Teams for both are forming now and it is a fantastic way to accomplish something amazing while supporting a great cause.

Next event is Tuesday, October 17th at Nectar Lounge. Go RSVP at www.rivercityprofessionals.org.

I love watching people.  People are funny.  I mean REALLY funny.  They do stupid things all the time.  We’ve all seen the hidden camera footage, or seen the Internet version of candid camera.  Have you seen the site that is based in New York that only features conversations that were overheard?  There is an obsession with what people do and say.  We even have local magazines like the RFT that make lists of where to go to people watch.  Unfortunately those rags are keenly skewed towards their advertisers, and not a good indication of the behavior of real people.  Short of starting your own Internet site, here are just a couple of places to do some great people watching: Continue reading “What Are You Staring At?” »

So, I haven’t been good this week about promoting the arts, especially the Contemporary’s opening tonight own (where I happen spend most of my time).

My excuse for not writing you earlier is along the lines that I have been ‘oh so busy!’ Seeing how I’m already in the doghouse with you, I figure I’m just going to share my Contemporary-Pulitzer blog post rather than write a new one!  (Am I breaking blogging rules? Geesh, I sure hope  not). So, here’s my ‘work’ post, giving you an inside peek atwhat’s going on behind-the-scenes at the Contemporary, and a taste of what you can expect tonight: Continue reading “Contemporary Opening Tonight: Toasts and Cowbells” »

My sister and I are very different creatures – after a long day she wants to go home and unwind whereas I prefer to go out to do the same. Partly it’s the nature of our jobs: she’s salaried, I’m not. For me going out is partly a way of marketing car counsel and myself as a consultant to non-automotive ventures (I keep promising myself I’ll write off every drink but never get around to it).

Today a friend sent me this link, proving that that going out isn’t just good fun it’s a good business practice.

Events put on by groups like the River City Professionals and others or even a few drinks at a the rare bar where it’s quiet enough to have a conversation do more than give you a chance to oogle the opposite sex – they’re chances to form business connections and help you practice your elevator pitch.

Which brings me to something else that’s been on my mind: the October 3rd ‘Connect With…’ event at Moulin – the biggest networking event of the year. If you’re not planning to be there you better hope your competitors aren’t either.

This just in… Another useless survey. St. Louis City ranks in the lowest 25 US counties for life expectancy with an average lifespan of 70.8 years. The top? Clear Creek, Colorado at 81.3 years.

Browsing through the Clear Creek website shows lots of nice active opportunities. A ½ marathon, snow shoeing, rock climbing, fly fishing. Coincidence you say? Hell yea! Give me another beer…

*UPDATE* Science On Tap has been canceled.  Drink beer anyway. It is good for your future (see new post on success and drinking)

All this talk about fashion, backsides, art and ice cream, I figured I would throw something in to change the tone. Something near and dear to my heart… That something… is beer. Yes, beer. The reason I can’t fit into anything from Hollister. The reason I almost flunked out of college. The reason… eh… never mind… I digress.

If you like beer as much as I do, then you must take a little time to venture over to the Science Center on Saturday, September 23rd (4 – 7pm) for Science On Tap. Yes ladies and gentlemen, the science of brewing. Sample some of Schlafly’s finest. Be amazed by home brew and cooking with beer demonstrations. Get down to the sounds of Mitzi MacDonald and Keltic Reign (or at least listen and enjoy). All for only $25. Yes, $25! At that price, it is sure to sell out so order your tickets today at www.slsc.org/content.aspx?id=2135! Must be 21 or over to attend.

To quote Droz from PCU – “Beer: it’s your best friend, you drink a lot.”

fine print – always drinks responsibly, know your limits, and designate a driver. remember www.thedrivers-seat.com
