Today’s cars are safer than ever, but they don’t yet prevent a drunk driver from getting behind the wheel and starting the motor. Last the number of people who died in drunk driving incidents was greater than its been since 1992. I’m all for a good time, but why is it we feel worse about missing the party than leaving it drunk?

(As I type this I feel hypocritical myself – I mean on the one hand I started my career as a consumer advocate after my friend died as a passenger to a drunk driver and yet just this past weekend I tried to get a friend not to drive drunk then got in with them as some sort of hubristic protective measure).

Can all hold each other to a higher standard? Please?
