Dear MoDot,
I just wanted to drop you a quick note during this festive time of the year to let you know that I’ve been thinking a lot about you recently. I know it seems I’ve been elsewhere and distant over the last year or two, but I’ve been really busy planning stuff. You know how that goes right? Seems you have a lot on your plate these days too. I remember when I was on the School Board and everyone was telling me how to do my job..it was SO annoying. And then of course there was the little campaign in the mayoral primary election a few years back. Hey, 1% never looked so popular! I just really wanted to let you know that I hope you don’t have any hard feelings with the whole lawsuit thing. Always remember that I’m a man of the people, and honestly re-doing an outdated highway system can have long lasting consequences to the safety of the people that have put me in the position of being their spokesperson. Well, okay…I’ve never really been elected to that specific position..but you know what I mean. I do what I can. There has to be another way, right? I mean…right?
So what are you doing next Wednesday? I was thinking of having some people over to my place. Sort of a, you know, holiday mixer type thing. Maybe we can all pile into my SUV after the court hearing and head back to my estate in Southwest St. Louis. It’s so close to Hwy 44, you can almost touch it. By the way…if you see some signs in the basement that say something like ‘Haas for Congress’ do not be alarmed. After this whole law suit thing is taken care, I’ll have some extra time on my hands, so I thought I’d see what else I could get up to. Again, I hope you aren’t sore about the injunction thing…we need to save the environment, and really the part of closing down Hwy 40 could have been done differently so as to not inconvenience so many people. If you think about it, lane closures could have sufficed, minus the 10 year workaround. Did you guys think about building a sky walk from Kingshighway to Hwy 270? I think there is something there. I should do a study on it.
Well, see you this week…and I hope you and your family have a great holiday season.
P.S. I got an REI gift card from my friends…I’m leaving right now to go buy that hot new bicycle they have in their store display. So jazzed over it!
xoxo,
BillH.
